The media circus surrounding Britney Spears' first ever tour of Australia is in full swing, with many media outlets savaging the performer's first Australian concert in Perth. News.com websites along with The Australian website were reporting that many fans had left the concert in disgust, some within a few songs of the concert beginning.

Britney's Australian publicists have tonight issued this statement about the reports;

"Burswood Entertainment Complex is proud to host the Britney Spears 'Circus' concert tour in Burswood Dome.
Last night's concert (Friday) saw record crowds turn out for her first performance in Perth and from Burswood's perspective the event was a huge success. Early media reports that hundreds of fans left the concert early cannot be substantiated and Burswood has received no complaints about the concert."

They also cite hundreds of excitable fan posts from Britney's official website, her Twitter page and other Britney-related sites, all praising Britney's first Australian show.

The performer's second Perth show is due to get underway within a few hours. She next heads for Melbourne.

http://auspop.net/
P!nk's concert there broke the record for largest attendance with 17,500. Britney`s attendance was 18,272

When Rihanna sits down with Diane Sawyer on '20/20', it's sure to be one of the biggest interviews of the year. But will it go down as one of the biggest interviews of all time? Over the years, the celebrity interview has become one of the staples of the entertainment industry. Make a huge mistake? Go on the 'Tonight Show' and humbly plead forgiveness. In need of a reputation makeover? Talk to Oprah and shed a tear. Need to generate instant headlines? Letterman is your man. When celebrities open up, crazy things seem to follow, so whatever happens tonight, chances are people will be talking about it tomorrow. In order to help Rihanna prepare, then, we thought we'd give her (and you) a refresher course in some of the most infamous interviews of all time.

Hey, we've got an opening monologue for Taylor Swift.
"Hi, I'm Taylor Swift, as you know," the teen titan could start off with on tomorrow's Saturday Night Live. "And I'd like to thank Kanye West for helping you know that."
OK, so the lines aren't funny. But they are true. The SNL gig—as host and musical guest? The honor of being the first female country performer to pull that desirable double duty since Dolly Parton more than 20 years ago? The album that's been out forever and is back climbing the charts? Yup, somebody owes Mr. West a muffin basket.Think we're going off half-cocked (like a certain rapper, perhaps?) by suggesting that the Video Music Awards incident, featuring the boorish West and the sideswiped Swift, was the best thing that ever happened to the latter's career? We don't."Her brand is definitely seeing significant growth," Marvet Britto, president and CEO of the Britto Agency, a public-relations and brand-strategy firm, told us.
The "her" is definitely Swift. And, according to Britto, the West moment was definitely a defining moment.
"I think that there were people who were vaguely familiar with Taylor Swift [before the VMAs]," Britto said, "and they immediately became interested in who she was."
Now, Swift can give credit to herself, too, because if she'd been an ass to West's ass-plus-you-know-what, then all career-boosting bets would have been off. But Swift didn't match West, jerk move for jerk move.
"She handled the debacle so eloquently," Britto said.
Or as Personal Public Relations' Bonnie Russell puts it: "By the time she got the microphone back [from West], millions wanted to protect her."
Ka-ching!
Now, understood: Swift was a star before West; Swift was selling albums (a lot of them) before West; Swift was a teen idol before West.
But…
She wasn't on Oprah before West. She wasn't hosting SNL before West. And, no, she wasn't going to hockey games with New Moon's Taylor Lautner before West.
To be clear, we're not suggesting Swift fork over a commission to anybody but her agents. We're not arguing West be excused for leaving his assigned seat. We're not even suggesting Swift thank West for hijacking her moment.
We're just saying Swift shouldn't ever forget the people who made her the superhot performer who dates superhot hotties that she is today.

Even if one of those persons deserving of credit is a superhot hothead.

Retirement, or something, appears to be changing Sammy Sosa(notes). He and wife, Sonia, were recently in Las Vegas for the Latin Grammys, which included a tribute on Wednesday to singer Juan Gabriel. Photogs caught the Sosas on the red carpet and Sonia looks fabulous as always. As for Sammy ... well, there's no getting around it, but Sammy looked kind of pale.
His skin is undeniably lighter than at any time since he broke into the majors in 1989. Is it an illness, or a condition such as Vitiligo, in which depigmentation occurs? Is Sammy just bleaching his skin for fashion's sake? (Heh, "just.")
I wonder if he is changing his look, simply because his eyes are a different color. Sammy was born with brown eyes. He's taken to wearing green contact lenses and, quite frankly, they are extremely creepy. Is he co-starring in the upcoming "Twilight" sequel? The plastic suit also bothers me, just because it does.
Sammy, who hasn't played since 2007, has been accused of using modern chemistry to help him attain 609 career homers — including three seasons of 60-plus. Perhaps he's turning to science to give him a different veneer as he approaches his 41st birthday.

Kate,
I'm here…
sort of.
Find Cameron.
He knows.
I shouldn't be writing.
Don't tell.
They'll hurt you.

Kate has no choice but to play detective and prove once and for all that Grace’s death was more than just a tragic accident. The emails continue and Kate is forced to confront the school's resident druggie, a sketchy administrator and even her own demons.

As she moves closer and closer to the truth, she teams up with a couple of knights-in-(not so)shining armor--the dangerously attractive, bad boy, Liam and her love-struck neighbor, Seth.

The three uncover an ancient secret lurking in the halls of their elite private school with the power to destroy them all.

But the truth doesn’t always set you free. Sometimes it’s only the beginning.

What made you decide to be a writer?
We were both stay-at-home moms and we were sort of bored, so we figured we should figure out what to do with our lives.

We had a limited, but intriguing set of qualifications:
  • We loved to read;
  • We watched a LOT of MTV; and
  • We liked to pretend we were still 17-years-old.
Writing a YA book was pretty much our only option.
Favorite books/authors?
We love Christopher Pike, Lois Duncan, Pat Conroy, Suzanne Collins, Marissa de Los Santos, Stephen King and about a million other authors we're forgetting.

Morning person or a night owl?
We do almost all of our writing at night.

PC or mac?
Lisa is a Mac and Laura is a PC.

What did you have for dinner today?
Laura is going out to dinner with friends and Lisa is making pulled pork sandwiches for a bunch of people coming over to watch football.

Quick! Share 11 random things about yourself.

1. Laura was homecoming queen.

2. Lisa read her first Stephen King novel (Carrie) when she was 11.

3. We talk on the phone for at least an hour every single day. We also Skyppe and e-mail and we only live 30 minutes away from each other. Bottom line: We spend an unhealthy amount of time together.

4. We both drink more Diet Coke than water, and yes we're aware of how wrong that is.

5. We never fight although we do sometimes get annoyed with each other our writing isn't going the way we'd like.

6. We write and edit really fast. Our first draft of The Haunting of Pemberly Brown was done in a month.

7. We love ice cream, particularly Dairy Queen soft serve with crunch coat.

8. Lisa is known as the idea whore after e-mailing Laura at all hours with various book ideas.

9. We have another sister Stacey, who's an artist with her own stationary company.

10. We both married high school sweethearts (embarrassing, but true).

11. The biggest fight between us involved Lisa breaking a cordless phone over Laura's head.

Ewan McGregor on the Late Late Show last night. He and Craig discuss Ewan's love of being naked, chase each other around the tables, and how many goats have been whacked for American lives. Seriously I could have lived my whole life without the last part. Way to sell your movie Ewan! *facepalm*

It's a funny interview, Scotsmen ftw, but animal lovers might want to beware.

By day she's engaged in a bitter and public war with her father, but when night falls Lindsay Lohan puts it behind her and hits the party scene! Lindsay reunited with her ex girlfriend Courtenay Semel on Friday night at Crown Bar and RadarOnline.com was there. Looking a little ragged, Lindsay appeared at times to be in great spirits, partying with a group of people including Courtenay, who was once rumored to be her lesbian lover, although Lindsay said they were just good friends.

Still, it was clear the two of them were happy to be together and Lindsay was up and dancing for much of the night, bumping into things and smoking inside the bar. Later her mood appeared to change and by the time she left she was clearly unhappy. Twilight star Kellan Lutz was also at the club and RadarOnline.com watched as Lindsay invited him to sit with her but he politely declined.

In a year of change for all of us 2k9 writers, and a year when I have traveled to ten states and a Canadian province talking to students about Bull Rider, I have discovered something. We may hope that our books will touch readers, but in fact, the process of writing changes us. And when we share stories, something quiet and magical can happen. We have a moment of intimacy with another human being.

Yesterday I was talking to a group of sixth graders in Washington. It was Friday, last hour. The teacher had asked me to do a writing workshop with the class and we’d already met at my presentation. But there was that “are you going to finish so we can go home vibe” about some of them. I knew my workshop was a good one, but I steeled myself for perhaps a mediocre hour. The students followed my prewriting instructions. A few of them warmed up. We got to actual writing and everyone was quiet. Most of their pencils flew – I saw some kids rub their writing hands for relief and continue. I had them. After eight minutes we stopped to share. I had asked them to write about a time they were sad or excited. The students read their stories aloud. One won a basketball game. One went to a slumber party with friends. Then a little girl in the corner, the kind of girl I suspect doesn’t talk much, began reading in a shaky voice. “I will tell you about the day I found my mother had died.” She continued for a full two pages, wiping her eyes occasionally to hold back tears. You could hear the breathing in the room. No one moved. She ended with “And I knew I’d never see my mother again.” Silence. How do you continue after that moment of vulnerability? I said, “Thank you.” More silence. “You know stories can change us. And sharing stories changes us too. You’ve let us feel how you felt and now the sharing will change you. When you share your story it has power – to make us laugh or cry. To heal us. To bring the arms of more people into your world. You have given us a gift. Thank you.” And we went on.

At the end of this 2k9 year, I would say that the sharing has been a gift. We’ve be together in the planning and during disappointments, and confusion, and joy, and excitement. And sharing the stories we wrote is magic. They have lives of their own now. In rooms we will never see our books are evoking tears and laughter and fear. They are reaching for our readers, changing them. A year ago, I hadn’t imagined that. But don’t believe readers are the only ones whose lives have been touched. Writing my nonfiction book, the Inuit taught me to listen. Writing Bull Rider taught me to be grateful – for family, for health, and for the sacrifices that military families make in small and heroic ways every day. Being in the Class of 2k9 has taught me that each book and each person has their own journey. They will be different, but they are each equally valid and good.

And a last discovery? If we write the books and you don’t read them, we may as well have shredded them when they came off the press. If Bull Rider or Jane in Bloom or any of our 2k9 titles sit on a library shelf or are paper weights on someone’s desk, we might as well have buried  them in the backyard. This story thing takes two – a writer and a reader. We’ve done our bit. Now I ask you to do yours. Read our stories and then pass them on. Our books can speak, but only if you listen. In that sharing, there is magic. Thank you.

John Cusack finally joins the ranks of action heroes in 2012. In the film, he tries to save his family as the world comes to an end, with the help of some mind-boggling special effects and director Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow).

Some serious prognosticators insist that 2012 might really be our doomsday based on the ancient Mayan calendar. Cusack isn't among them.
