Uglies by Scott Westerfeld

Uglies by Scott Westerfeld

This past summer, I re-read Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. I’ve read it one other time, back in 2005 (according to my LJ) for the Young Adult Book Club in high school. It was the first book we had to read for the club and I when I thought back to reading it, I thought it was a good book and wanted to read the rest, but Pretties wasn’t even out yet at the time.

Anyway, while looking through my LJ, I found that I did actually write a review about Uglies! Unfortunately, I was young and stupid and pretty much committed the faux pas of hating a book because I hated what the main character was doing. x_x

Today I finished reading Uglies which happens to be the first book to read for the Young Adult Book Club and if I didn’t HAVE to read the book, I so wouldn’t be reading it on my own. But I digress. This book is the first of a trilogy. I’d say that was fine, but really, it’s not. I’m sure people know what I mean when they read something or watch something and they feel compelled to continue on with it until it’s over because, hey, you don’t want to be a quitter, and yeah.. Can’t really think of another reason. But anywayz.. This book? It was okay.

Luckily, I wasn’t too stupid, since I said the book was okay, haha. But honestly, I think it was more the fact that I love YA books, but I hated the people in the club and my resentment rubbed off on reading the book. -_-

Also fortunately, I did have a pretty good review regarding my thoughts on the book written down, so I’ll just be quoting myself and adding onto it. XP

WARNINGS: Spoilers ahead, cussing in quotes, since I was young and stupid, haha.

Got the Books section on my website updated with all the (non-textbook) books I've read since January 2009. Not that many, when you realize that I've only read, like, 14 books in nine months. But then again, except for You're So Undead to Me, I read the rest during summer, so in a way, it's a little better, lol.

Hopefully I can get my summer studio stuff up in the portfolio section sometime today, but we'll see. I'm actually working on my other website right now, which will be dedicated to fan-fiction recommendations, since I read lots of fics. XP I hope to get that one up and running sometime this week (before I head back to SLO) as well.

Currently on the train heading home for the weekend and I figure it's about time I finish writing up my account of CONSTRUCT 2009 for my blog as well as to cross-post parts into the Cal Poly CSI blog (kinda annoyed that no one wants to blog on some content, but what can I expect? Discussion for another time, I guess). Will talk about summer school and other stuff after the convention in this post as well, since I still have a good six hours (as of typing this) to go before I get to San Diego and no internet to break these into separate posts (yes, I could break them when I finally get some access, but that would be lots more work for me since I'll be typing it all out on Semagic). XP

CONSTRUCT 2009 // The CSI Convention, which was in Indianapolis this year from June 16-19.
Summer Quarter // Ramblings on summer studio and math class.
San Francisco Trip // Field trip up to SF last weekend (June 26-27).
Books Discussion // With all the traveling, I've been doing lots of reading, so talk about these books.

Books Discussion -- Spoilers Warning! )

Okay, so it is currently 12:30PM and the train just left LA and I'm super tired after typing for three hours straight, so that's all for now. Will post once I get access to the internet.

Addendum -- it is currently 9:38PM and I'm finally posting this, haha.

MORNING
Soooo tired 'cause I went to bed late last night. x_x Sucked, but got up at 7:00. After that, went to get ready and ate, then left for class around 7:55.

ARCHITECTURE 133
Had arch history some more.. But apparently we're done with that though, which kinda sucks 'cause it was such a good time-waster. But yeah.. After that, we had a break, then we pinned up our scales and talked a bit, then went to Brent's class to learn the office method of perspective drawings. BLAHHHH!

Afterwards, went back to our class and Wiley checked to see what we had, then we could leave.

BREAK
Ate lunch.. Got my Details in Contemporary Architecture (AsBuilt) book today, but my project is NOT IN IT. Yeah. Kinda pissed 'cause I was depending on this book and I have been let down and yeah. >O

PHYSICS 132
Boringess.. Dunno.. Same as always..

AFTERWARDS
Went to the bookstore and they didn't have the AsBuilt book in there, so yeah.. 'Cause earlier in the week, I thought I saw it in there, but apparently I was dreaming? x_x Then went to wait in the long ass line to return my books 'cause today was the last day to return with a full refund. x_x

After all that, went to the library 'cause they sent an e-mail saying they had the book I was looking for, so got that and when I was walking out, looked through the table of contents and what, you ask? My project isn't in there. Of course. That's just how the day has been, right? x_x Of course it has.

Went back to Stenner and yeah.. haven't done anything productive at all just because I don't have energy and I'm kinda sad and yeah..

[info]aznearthdragon called Hodgetts + Fung for me and then she told me that the dude said that they were in Japan and he can't give out the floorplans and stuff without their permission and they weren't gonna come back until April 15 and yeah. Screwed? You bet I am. x_x See how lovely my day is?

On the plus side, Shanni said that Brian had a book with the Sinclair Garden Pavilion in it and she said she'd text me the title, so yeah.. On the other hand, she hasn't texted me, so yeah.. x_x The thing is, I don't want to get a text 'cause that's 10 cents, but I'd rather know the title of the book I must hunt down than have that 10 cents, so yeah.. I will call her tomorrow afternoon or something if she doesn't text me.

So yeah.. I was looking at the ads on the housing website and the classifieds on the ASI website and yeah... so hard to find housing for next year. I mean, argh! I have to resort to people I don't know right now 'cause I need a place to live, but anything that's for next year has the lease starting in June or July and I'll be home during that time, so it's a waste. If it was in August, I would be okay, but I would prefer September, you know? But I'd be willing to deal with August, but yeah.. Can't find any and the only one that would even work was this one looking for one more girl and it's a house with three Christian girls and.. yeah. 'Nough said. I don't want people trying to convert me 24/7 and my experience with Christians has mostly been on the wanting to convert me side, so.. And plus, they would only want a Christian person, or why else would they say that in their ad? I posted a want add on ASI, so yeah.. I don't know.. I feel kinda lame right now.

Will go now.. Lates.

MORNING
I couldn't really sleep last night, so yeah.. Was so tired this morning.. x_x Sucked ass.. Got ready and ate and yeah.. Was exhausted. =(

ARCHITECTURE 132
So I came in and sat on the door side of the classroom.. It felt kinda weird 'cause the class is flipped from Brian's, but I still wanted to sit on the door side 'cause I like that side and it faces the screen. From the few people in there though, it seemed the trend would be that Brian's class would sit on the other side of the class and Keith's class would sit on the door side. So later, Valerie came in, sat next to me, then was like, "Dude, why are we sitting on this side? All the people from Brian's class are on that side. Come on, we're moving", so I just got my stuff and went with her 'cause I'm not mean, you know.. So now I sit on the other side, in the back row. I hate sitting in the back row. ARGH. Whatever.. Sit next to Jamison and Valerie.. I wish I didn't sit there though 'cause it sucks.. And yeah, by the time everyone came in, it was basically separated by our previous teacher, except for a few from Brian's class 'cause there wasn't room, I guess..

The other classes came in and we talked about the syllabus for, like, a minute, then we started talking about the new project. I don't really get it, but whatever.. Some contour thing with our found object and all that.. Whatever. After that, they talked about how we suck at scanning and was telling us how we can fix our scans and stuff, so yeah.. Now we have to rescan our drawing from the Slip Case project and perfect and seamlessly and turn it in on Wednesday. x_x After that, the other classes went back to their class and Brent showed us some stuff on FormZ and then told us to start drawing out contour thingy. He went around to look at everyone's objects. He said mine was too recognizable and to take it apart more. BLEH! The other classes already got to leave too, and we were just sitting there doing work forever. >O Then finally, he let us go at 11:15, about 30 or so minutes after the other two classes. Said we had to have four different iterations drawn. ARGH!

BREAK
Went back to my room and dropped off my stuff and all, then went to get lunch. After eating, went to get my mail.. There was a lot, lol. And yeah.. [info]disutansu, I got your letter. ^_^ Read all the other junk and stuff, then went online to find the cheapest Canon LiDE 60 scanner to buy 'cause I hate my printer/scanner thing.. Doesn't scan well enough and I don't always want to go to the library to get somewhat good scans, so yeah.. Bought it from Amazon and it was $71 or something.. BLEH! After that, got my stuff ready and then went to school.

Went to pick up my textbooks and they were freakin' heavy. After that, headed off to class and went into the Fisher Science building 'cause I wasn't paying attention to what class on my schedule it was, just the room.. And then I checked my schedule again and it turns out I was at the wrong building 'cause I was looking at HNRS 101, not HNRS 134. x_x So left and headed over to the spider building 'cause I didn't know if that was the science building I needed.. Then went to ask a girl and she pointed me to the right building and it turns out that it's right next to the Fisher Science building I was just in. x_x Lameness...

HONORS 134 / PHYSICS 141
So, first thing I notice? 99% of the class was dudes. x_x I mean, seriously, there were, like, five girls out of the 30ish of us. That's lame. Next, almost everyone knows each other 'cause they all live in Yosemite, the honors dorm. x_x So yeah, the teacher asked who didn't know more than five people in the class and there was probably only three or four of us. BLEH! I feel like such an outsider. x_x And yeah.. In class, he just talked about the syllabus and stuff.. Then we got a pre-test for homework that we're suppose to do alone so he can see what we know. BLAH!

AFTERWARDS
Went to the food processing building which is all the way past Campus Market, which is FAR from the centerish, just to try to crash an SCOM 145 class. Waited in the classroom for a while, then finally about five minutes later, the teacher came. Said that he could only take one more person in the class and called the first person on the waitlist. I was kinda mad 'cause he still had seats AND he didn't even take attendance yet to see if anyone was missing! ARGH! He so could have taken more people. There was only, like, five or six of us trying to add anyway! ARGH! So had to leave and walked all the way back to Stenner with my heavy-ass books. x_x

Got back and Kitto came to ask if I saw Snakes on a Plane yet 'cause he rented it. So now I'm borrowing it to watch, then gonna give it back to him tomorrow 'cause he needs to return it on Wednesday. After that, asked him if he had any screwdrivers 'cause I had to take apart my music box thingy more. He got his precision ones and was attempting to take it apart for me, but yeah.. Then we went to his room to see if he had anything I could use, but he didn't, so we came back to my room and he kept trying and then finally took it apart. After that, just talked a bit, then I shooed him out so I could do some homework. ((Decided not to go try to crash the four o'clock class 'cause I was tired, and knowing my luck, I wouldn't get in. x_x))

Worked on my physics pre-test thing. It was kinda easy, kinda hard, 'cause it was half math, half physics. I didn't know some of it 'cause, yeah. Physics was back in 9th grade for me, so yeah.. BLEH!

Went to eat dinner with Kitto, Angel, and Erik around 5:00-ish. Ate spaghetti and yeah.. Just sitting with the guys.. We are such quiet eaters, lol.

After eating, came back and finished the pre-test while talking to [info]bobbleheadvi. Then he had to go and yeah... Now I'm writing this because I dun wanna try any physics problems yet, not that we actually have homework that counts, but it's suggested, so yeah. I'm one of those people who try to do it, if it's not too much.. And yeah.. Didn't want to work on my contour drawing things yet for architecture, but I should.. I want to get as much done as possible tonight so I don't have much to do tomorrow morning.. I dun really want to do homework tomorrow night, unless it's related to the two classes I have tomorrow..

Okay, I think I'm gonna break for a little longer, then shower and am determined to finish at least one or two contour drawing thingies.
